Cremation Ceremony: What Is It and How to Plan One?

To honour the life of a deceased loved one whose body is to undergo cremation, a cremation ceremony will be held to honour this process. This event gathers family members and friends, providing a designated space for them to mourn, celebrate, and commemorate the deceased.

When it comes to organising a cremation ceremony, it’s crucial to carefully plan and arrange it so that it can become a meaningful and respectful tribute.

What Is a Cremation Ceremony?

In Hong Kong, a cremation ceremony is a form of farewell service commonly conducted in the farewell room of the hospital where the patient passed away. Compared to traditional funeral ceremonies, this approach is simpler and more cost-effective, suitable for those seeking a modest arrangement to pay tribute to their departed loved ones.

The process usually begins with the deceased being identified by family members or close friends at the hospital mortuary. Following this, the deceased will be cleaned, dressed, and given makeup before being placed in a casket. Finally, the ceremony will take place in the hospital’s farewell room, which can be used for up to one hour including dressing of the body, for final goodbyes and respects to be paid to the departed. While various religious practices can be accommodated in the ceremony, open flames, such as candles or incense, are not permitted in some of the venues.

Once the ceremony is complete, the deceased’s body can be directly transported to a crematorium for cremation or a cemetery for cremation or burial.

How Can White Lily Help with the Planning of a Cremation Ceremony?

Understandably, there are many complexities involved in the arrangement of a cremation ceremony; White Lily is here to help. By offering a compassionate approach and a personalised touch, our range of services can help you manage the following arrangements:

Administrative Assistance

We’ll manage the necessary administrative tasks to facilitate the cremation ceremony.  These involve completing the required paperwork and coordinating with the hospital mortuary for the identification, handling, and placement of the deceased in a casket.

Ceremony planning

Upon confirming the booking of the farewell room with the hospital, we’ll begin planning the ceremony, including adding religious elements, arranging seating and live broadcast, and incorporating relevant items, such as personal photos or letters, to honour the deceased. A brief rundown will be created to ensure a smooth process.

Logistics

After the cremation ceremony, we’ll handle the transportation of the deceased from the hospital to the crematorium, coordinate with the crematorium to schedule the cremation and arrange for the return of the ashes.

We believe that every life deserves a beautiful and respectful send-off. Our goal is to ease the burden of planning and allow you to focus on honouring your loved one’s memory. Feel free to talk to us about any additional support we can provide to give a proper farewell to the deceased.

Who Is a Cremation Service for?

Compared to organising a funeral ceremony, cremation ceremony services are a more affordable choice for families looking for an economical, simple, and personalised end-of-life option. They can be especially practical for the deceased with a lower number of family or friends or for those who prefer a straightforward service.

How Much Does a Cremation Service Cost?

The costs of a cremation service depend on the required service components and the providers. However, a cremation ceremony service is a more affordable choice compared to a funeral ceremony, as it is simpler in format.
