Wong Bing was born in Canton (now called Guangzhou) on 1925 and later moved to live Hong Kong with his family. He returned to Canton during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong from December 1941 to August 1945.

After the surrender of Japanese in Hong Kong, Wong Bing returned to Hong Kong at the age of 20. At the time Hong Kong was taking its time recovering from the hardships made during the Japanese occupation. He did not have many options for him to choose employment but to starting his apprenticeship with the Taikoo Dockyards at Quarry Bay as mechanic repairing ships, which were moored at Taikoo Dockyards.

Wong Bing married to Tong Shiu King on 1948 and they moved into one of the rooms in the Taikoo Dockyards quarters situated in Sai Wan Ho. They were residing in second floor. Each quarter accommodated about 20 families. The first son, Shu Sun was born on 1949 and three year later, second son, Shu Yin was born. Wong Bing’s first daughter, Sui Lin, Catherine, was later born in Sai Wan Ho.

Wong Bing remained working in Taikoo Dockyards until 1957.  As then the family was growing to five members, he decided that he needed more earning to feed this growing family. Following the career paths of many of his fellow workers in Taikoo Dockyards, he decided to work on cargo ships at the age of 32. As he was no longer worked with Taikoo Dockyards, he and his family had to move out of the quarters to live with his mother-in-law’s bungalow in Hing Wah Village in Chai Wan. The family lived there until August 1964. The family moved twice and finally settled down in Shaukeiwan where Wong Bing lived until he moved to full care nursing home in 2018.

Since 1957 Wong Bing was living on a cargo ship until he retired in 1981. He had been to nearly all the places in the world as his ship brought him to South America, Africa, Europe, Middle East and Asia. It is not boastful to say that he had visited every major city in five continents. Whenever one was mentioning about a city, he would have a lot to say about it.

While he was working as a fitter in a cargo ship he taught himself English. As time went by both his written and oral English enabled him to know the world more and he was able to communicate with people of different cultures.

Wong Bing was a hard worker, but he did enjoy his life while cargo ship was his second home. Yet he decided that he did not want to climb the career ladder to be the captain of a cargo ship. He remained committed to do his daily hard work taking the parts off, cleaning them and put them back.

While he was working hard on ship his family kept growing as the third son, Shu Wing, Andrew, was born in Chai Wan and followed by the second daughter, Sui Kuen, Carrie and the third daughter, Sui Mei, Silvia, was born in Chai Wan. That completed the family tree of Wong Bing.

Wong Bing continued working on a cargo ship and was a valuable employee of the British Ben Line Steamers Company and he worked in the same company till Wong Bing retired in 1981.

After retiring from working on a cargo ship (container ship), Wong Bing found another interesting job, which was good for retirees. He worked at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club at Causeway Bay as a swimming pool attendant. This job again gave him the opportunity to talk with all kind of people who were patronizing the yacht club.  He fully retired on 1995 when he turned 70.

Wong Bing had lived a wonderful life with a relative big family. He also was committed to Jesus Christ at his last leg of his worldly journey and he knew where he would be going after he died.

Wong Bing knew that his time was coming.  Yet he did not stop him talking with people around him. Wong Bing had lived his life fully and wonderfully and his entire family member will remember him.
